The Lafayette Style Watch

The graphic tee first made its appearance in the 1950s when resort companies would paste their logos on tees, and Disney characters could be projected on the cotton. Since then, the trend has taken off. From CD covers, to candy wrappers, painted scenes, and iconic figures, designers love adding flare to a basic cotton tee and appealing to a wide array of customers. The graphic tee can stand alone as your outfit’s statement piece, or mysteriously protrude from beneath a blazer or cardigan. Males and females can be seen sporting graphic tees. Each shirt provides a small window into the wearer’s personality.

Each week Lafayette Style columnist, Aleni Mackarey peruses the campus to find Leopard’s rocking unique and individual trends. Today’s installment features the very stylish Kiyah Holloman rocking a graphic tee and leather pants.

What is your class year and major?

Class of 2015. English with a writing concentration.

Where is your look from?

Marilyn Monroe T Shirt; Forever 21. Leather pants; Asos. Timberland Boots.

What inspired your look for today?

Tomeboy Chic. I wanted to be comfy yet cute. Wasn’t in the mood to be girly.

To what sorts of events or places might you wear this outfit?

This outfit is perfect for class, a quick run to Chipotle or running errands.

What is your favorite outfit style to wear to class?

I don’t have one. It depends on how I’m feeling that morning, but I try not to do the same look consecutively. Tomboy one day, girlie the next, hipster the day after.

What is your favorite fashion trick/trip?

Lipstick and a good eyebrow always set a look out.

What is your favorite fashion spot?

London. It’s like…New York on steroids.

Who is a fashion icon of yours? And why?

Angela Simmons. Because she has a tomboy side and a girly side like I do.

What are your favorite stores?

I don’t have a favorite store. I wear clothes from anywhere. Target to Givenchy. I don’t discriminate.
