Chamber orchestra performance preview

Music is in the air as Lafayette’s Chamber Orchestra prepares for its fall concert this Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Williams Center for the Arts.

Conductor Darin Lewis will lead the chamber orchestra through a series of pieces. There are a total of six pieces being played in the concert, ranging from early Baroque to a nice tango by composer Astor Piazzolla.

One piece specifically is a Christmas piece called “Dives and Lazarus” by R. Vaughan Williams. The piece brings some holiday spirit to the concert, helping students get ready for the holiday season right before finals come up. Elizabeth Kasumi ‘18, a violin player and First Chair for Lafayette’s Chamber Orchestra says this piece is her favorite of the set.

This piece is really interesting, and it is different in that there is a harp part in it,” Kasumi said. “Harps are not very common in a string orchestra, and the part is arranged in a way that every player plays something slightly different, but molds and comes together beautifully.”

Admission is free and students can get tickets at the Box Office before the concert on Sunday.
