Local taqueria feels like home

From our perch on College Hill, we as a campus community can often feel isolated, a world unto itself. But there is a world outside campus. There are many opportunities for excursions off the hill, to get out into the Lehigh Valley and beyond, to experience all this region has to offer.

Tucked away in the streets of Easton, next to an auto center and across the street from a salon, is Taqueria La Plaza. About a 10-minute drive away from Lafayette, the quaint taqueria is located in the Wilson area.

Taqueria La Plaza truly goes ‘back to the basics’ in every sense of the phrase. Its casual vibes make it an easy go-to location for Mexican food. According to the taqueria’s Facebook page, it serves its food mostly with plastic utensils and styrofoam plates and doesn’t accept credit cards for payment, creating a homey atmosphere.

According to a review by The Morning Call, the restaurant is family-run and captures the essence of Mexican food and culture precisely. On the walls, a TV plays Spanish channels for entertainment and Mexican artwork hangs. Brightly colored walls and family-size tables make the taqueria a vibrant and inviting venue for lunch and dinner.

In terms of what visitors can expect to find on the menu at Taqueria La Plaza, there are a few routes one can take. The menu offers tortas (authentic Mexican subs), quesadillas, tamales, tostadas and tacos. There are nine different tacos on the menu that one can choose from, each no more than $2.25. In fact, every item on the menu at Taqueria La Plaza is $10 or less, making the taqueria not only comfortable but affordable. While many students may only be familiar with Mesa, the popular Mexican restaurant located on S. 3rd Street, the prices here are notably higher than the taqueria, which might make it attractive to Lafayette students.

“[It’s] a fun, cozy place to eat a ton of homemade tacos and more for under $10,” Sam Buczek ’17 wrote in an email. “[It’s] great for a last minute get together with friends.”

The service at Taqueria La Plaza has been described as fast and friendly, according to The Morning Call review. The taqueria is open every day from 10 a.m to 10 p.m and also provides take-out services for customers looking to grab-and-go. Taqueria La Plaza is located at 1647 Washington Blvd in Easton.
