Showing talent: Lafayette’s Annual Talent Show

Have a talent you’ve been hiding? Or a penchant for the absurd? Well, Emma Luu ‘16 wants to see what you’ve got.

Luu, along, with the Lafayette Activities Forum (LAF) will be hosting the Lafayette Talent Show in Colton Chapel, Saturday, March 1.  To all those thinking of attending, come expecting the unexpected.

“We want a wide variety of talent, more people than just the usual suspects,” the Director of Comedy, Luu said.  “LAF wants a talent show that will showcase the talents of Lafayette students.  We want you to come out and see your friends do something they wouldn’t normally do, encourage people to come out of their shells” Director of Issues and Culture , Greg Ly said.

If that doesn’t serve as enough of a stimulus, LAF will be awarding the top three competitors, the winners will be decided by a LAF panel of judges, gift cards to local businesses.

“Anyone can perform, come one, come all,” LAF Director of Design, Emma Matecki said.  It seems that the people have preemptively responded, as the Talent Show has already registered a dozen acts as of February 25, ranging from a piano recital to spoken word poetry.

When asked why he will be performing spoken word poetry at the talent show, Luke Wasacz ‘16, explained how he first became interested with spoken word poetry through local poetry slams, says that he derives much of his pleasure for the practice from the audience itself, and equates the catharsis of the experience to watching one of your favorite bands play live.

With this degree of enthusiasm from performers and a deep connection with their craft, there is no doubt that this production will have a full house this weekend.
