Eastonians and visitors enjoy the Open-Air Market on a sunny Saturday morning.

Located in Center Square, the Easton Farmers’ Market is the oldest, continuously running open-air market in the United States. Established in 1752, this rich, bright, and joyous part of Easton’s legacy has been around for as long as the city itself.

Supporting the regional agriculture as well as the city’s merchants, artists, and food vendors, the market provides excellent, fresh products as well as a sense of an intimate community to all its visitors. Everything for sale at the market has been produced locally, and a vast majority is grown organically.

All meat and dairy products have been made without the use of hormones or antibiotics. All of the vendors undergo on-site inspection to ensure they follow the Easton Farmers’ Market mission to create a healthier and happier community.

This Saturday, going down to the Farmer’s Market will promote more than the promise of delicious treats and fresh produce. To celebrate its 262nd season, the Easton Farmers’ Market will host a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. featuring guests such as Mayor Sal Panto, Easton Hospital CEO John Zidansek as well as Pennsylvania State Representative Robert Freeman.

Amongst other festivities happening on opening day, the market will provide live music to accompany the happy shoppers at 10 a.m. and again at 12 p.m. Third & Ferry Fish Market chefs, Mike Pichetto and Javan Small, will be holding cooking demonstrations throughout the day. There will also be children’s activities and crafts through the Little Sprouts Program sponsored by the Crayola Factory.

The 262nd season will also welcome three new vendors who will join the Easton Farmers’ Market family for a total of 37 vendors and an increase from last year’s 34. Among the new stands to look forward to this spring are V-Lish, a vegan soup company and Pickle Licious, which will be selling all sorts of pickled products including chocolate covered pickles.

There is a lot to be excited for with this year’s Open-Air Market kick-off, so set your alarms and we’ll see you in Center Square.
