Easton and the surrounding area are full of exciting, outdoor opportunities in the warmer months. Here are four must-do activities before winter sets in:

Wy-Hit-Tuk Park

Located along the Delaware Canal Trail (an excellent stretch of flat land for a run), Wy-Hit-Tuk Park is a delightful place to visit on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Offering plenty of picnic tables and gazebos, the park provides an easy access point to activities such as hiking, biking, volleyball, or simply kicking back with a blanket by the water.

Fun fact: “Wy-Hit-Tuk” means “river” in Lenape, a Native American language. If you are looking to get off campus for a couple hours and toss the frisbee around, then Wy-Hit-Tuk Park is the place for you.

For more information look up “Wy-Hit-Tuk” on the Northampton County’s website.

Faouzi’s Talk of the Town

If you have driven down Northampton Street, you have seen the bright pink façade of Faouzi’s Talk of the Town. If you have walked past, you have certainly been greeted by Faouzi’s ear-to-ear grin as he welcomes you to the best soft serve ice cream in Easton. Along with offering standard ice cream, milkshakes and even some Lebanese specialties, the crème de la crème of Faouzi’s is the soft serve.

For over 30 years, Faouzi and his wife Georgette have offered 60 different flavors, and here’s the best part: you can swirl two flavors together to personalize your cone. That means there are actually 1,770 flavors available, assuming you want to try banana peppermint.

Faouzi’s Talk of the Town is open everyday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. until the cold weather sets in. For more information check out their website

Jacobsburg State Park

Just 8 miles from campus sits Jacobsburg State Park, a unique spot filled with outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking, mountain biking and horeseback riding. Nineteen miles of gorgeous trails give visitors ample opportunity to explore and relax. Stop in at the Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center first for information on how best to tackle the 1,168 acre green space open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset.

Tomorrow, be sure to come out for the annual Lehigh Valley Greenways Festival, a free event to celebrate the outdoors and the exquisite natural beauty of the area.

For more information, visit the park’s site on Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website.

Easton Farmer’s Market

Every Saturday until winter, the Historic Centre Square in downtown Easton is filled to the brim with fresh produce, pastries, arts and crafts and live music. The Easton Farmer’s Market, first established in 1752, is the oldest continuously running open-air market in the United States. All products are locally grown, and friendly vendors such as Apple Ridge Farm and Valley Milkhouse welcome you as you explore one of Easton’s trademark traditions.

Open from 9a.m. to 1.p.m each Saturday, the Easton Farmer’s Market also hosts many events, such as Sunflower Day this Saturday.

For more information visit the website.

Happy exploring!
