The Lafayette Style Watch: Jackie Korey ’15

Aleni MacKarey

Each week The Lafayette style columnist, Aleni MacKarey, peruses the campus to find Leopard’s rocking unique and individual trends. Today’s installment features Jackie Korey in a stunning white lace dress. Lace, in its most primitive form, is thought to have been around since the sixteenth century. Originally seen only occasionally as loose needlepoint patterns on collars and geometric patterns cut out from fabrics, lace evolved to intricate surface decorations on gloves, shoe roses, jackets, and sashes. It was considered a symbol of status; especially gold and silver lace. Today, lace is seen on many articles of clothing from wedding dresses, blouses, camisoles, and even t-shirts. Used as both accent and the main attraction, lace has been shown all over runways.

What inspired your outfit for tonight?

I saw the dress on the store’s Instagram and fell in love with it!  The theme of the party I went to was Black and White, so I knew it was perfect.

What was your attitude while sporting tonight’s outfit?

I was feeling bold.

What was the inspiration behind your shoe?

Wedges are really comfortable and I wanted something easy since my plan was to dance all night long! The color also went with the theme.

How willing would you be to loan this dress?

I love loaning clothes, but this is special.  It was a very rare find, and given the delicate lace and color, I think it could be ruined too easily.

What is your favorite fashion trick/tip?

Don’t wear anything you’re not confident in, even if it’s considered fashionable.  If you’re not confident in it, you won’t pull it off.

Who is a fashion icon of yours? And why?

My mother.  She’s one of the most stylish people I know. She has always told me to dress for your body and what you like, not what is just “in” at the moment.

Of the celebrity outfits you’ve seen, which is one of your favorites?

Chrissy Teigen’s floral gown at the 2014 Oscars.
