The dream season was cut short for Lafayette Women’s Club Rugby, who lost to Lock Haven 34-13 in a physical semifinals match last weekend. But the club still plays for third place against Kutztown tomorrow at Metzgar Field.
“Everyone really gave it their all, but it just didn’t come together for us,” Co-captain Catherine Martin ‘12 said.
Lafayette played the match with only 14 players, one short of a full side. The short-handed squad could not match Lock Haven’s physical style of play.
“[It] makes everyone’s job that much harder,” Martin said. “You have to absorb the extra hits.”
Megan Richardson ‘14 accounted for all 13 of Lafayette’s points, including a try late in the second half.
Lafayette hosts the finals at Metzgar Field tomorrow at 1 p.m. Lock Haven and Millersville will play for the championship, while Lafayette and Kutztown square off for third and fourth place.
Lafayette will return to team practices for the spring season, which consists of exhibition matches.
“We’re really happy with where we are in meeting the goals we set for ourselves,” Martin said.
