The Lafayette

About

Written and designed independently by the undergraduate students of Lafayette College, The Lafayette is the oldest college newspaper in Pennsylvania. We began publishing in September 1870 as a literary and news magazine entitled The Lafayette Monthly. In September 1875 the magazine rebranded as The Lafayette Journal and shifted focus to reporting news on students and alumni at Lafayette College. Our final and current name, The Lafayette, was adopted in October 1884.

Besides brief hiatuses in the fall of 1943 and March 1945 due to World War II and during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, The Lafayette has been published in print continuously for over 150 years. The Lafayette has had a continuous web presence since 2001, first at thelaf.com and, since 2013, at lafayettestudentnews.com. We have published semi-weekly, bi-weekly, weekly and monthly. Today, we publish weekly on Fridays during the academic year.
