Student Government unanimously approved a bill reforming its club delegate and hours system at its penultimate meeting of the academic year on April 30.
The bill, presented by Student Government’s Equity & Inclusion Committee, codified the pilot club delegate program as a replacement for a previous hours requirement for senators.
Under the new system, members will “maintain consistent communication” with three to five assigned clubs rather than completing five service hours towards Student Government initiatives.
The organization also voted to keep the student activities fee at $360, the recommendation of Treasurer Gracie Vale ‘28. Lafayette Activities Forum president Elizabeth Miller ‘26 spoke in favor of increasing the fee at Student Government’s April 23 meeting.
Held on the front lawn of the President’s House, the meeting also included a short reception and brief remarks from college President Nicole Hurd.
President Allie Waxman ‘28 read a brief statement honoring the 10 graduating ex-representatives before presenting their graduation cords.
Several seniors gave brief, impromptu speeches — or “glows,” in Waxman’s words — in praise of the current senators.
“Not only are you guys leaders, but you’re servant leaders,” former Treasurer Christo Maheras ‘26 said. “You guys are the right thing in the world.”
A handful of underclassmen returned the sentiment, giving speeches in recognition of the graduating seniors.
“They’ve all helped us in some shape or form,” Sen. Clovis Nkamga ‘29 said. “We follow by their example.”
Budget allocations were not discussed; Secretary Hayden Cohen ‘29 wrote in an email that purchase requests had not been accepted since April 23.
Sen. Will Bennett ‘28 had an excused absence, while Nkamga had an unexcused tardy.
