Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams had busy weekends, each playing two matches and adding a strike in the win column.
The Leopard women had a rough start Friday playing their first home match of the season outside in frigid temperatures against Towson University. It was so cold the match was cut short after four points, with Towson winning 4-0.
The next match on Saturday against Wagner College was played indoors in the same facility where the Leopards practice. The women won with a score of 6-1, marking their first win of the season, while the men also won 7-0, marking their second win in a row.
The men are 2-2 while the girls are 1-2.
According to captains Liza Blank ‘14 and Scott Gelbman ‘13, the team standouts were Amanda Kusnierz ‘15 and Brandon Goldstein ’15, who each played the number-one singles spot.
The men’s team traveled to St. Peter’s University Sunday where they lost 7-0.
Both teams will prepare for St. Francis University at home this Friday, and their first Patriot League match against Colgate will take place Saturday.
“Our team is young, however, the intensity level has been good,” Gelbman said. “I firmly believe that we have the toughness it takes to go up to Colgate and get a win.”
The home match on Friday against St. Peters will begin at 1 p.m.
