Does anyone else have Pinterest fever? As college students we may not be armed with endless supplies of mason jars and crêpe paper, but we don’t have to be Martha Stewart to turn our colorless cell of a dorm into a more home-y living space. (Get it? Cause she was in a cell in prison).
I thought of the idea for DIY pennant banners while I was abroad last year, because my walls were rather bland but I had neither the funds nor the suitcase space to invest in actual decorations. Instead I bought one or two thick fashion magazines (which tend to have more colorful ads and patterned pages) and I ripped out the pages I liked best. After that, I made a template of a triangle and used it to cut out as many pieces as I want for my banner. The last step is to tape the triangles to a piece of rope, or if you’re like me and have severely limited supplies, just tape the triangles to each other at a rounded angle, and hang up! Voila! You’re crafty.
Bonus tip: Speaking of being limited in supplies, I chose not to buy push pins and instead used cheap colored-gem earrings I had lying around to pin up the pennants.
