The Oct. 2 Student Government meeting featured committee presentations, the launch of the awaited student organization delegate system and updates on the upcoming executive board elections and general body applications.
Student Government President Alex Brown ‘26 began the meeting by encouraging members to apply for ad hoc committee positions. Committee chairs then presented routine updates on the happenings of their committees.
Milan Iezzi ‘28, the student organizations committee chair, announced that the group was working to draft a document outlining the recognition processes for student clubs, as well as documents for a code of conduct and liability agreement that would clarify responsibilities and liabilities associated with club activities.
Communications Officer Ava Gallia ‘26 shared tentative plans in preparation for the upcoming executive board elections and general body applications. The events included a “meet your representatives” event in collaboration with the Office of Residence Life and an executive board elections candidate forum moderated by The Lafayette.
General body applications for the classes of 2027, 2028 and 2029 are due Nov. 20, and intent to run forms for executive board positions are due Oct. 20, according to an Instagram post from Student Government.
Following committee updates, Inclusivity Officer Luna Garces ‘27 and Iezzi announced the official launch of the student organizations delegate system, which aims to enable “transparent communication” between clubs and Student Government by allowing clubs to designate a member of their organization as a liaison to Student Government. Thirteen clubs were enrolled in the system at the time of the meeting, and several delegates were present that evening to introduce their organization.
Brown then gave a brief report on his takeaways from the Board of Trustees and recent faculty meetings, mentioning that the class of 2029 enrollment was a “little lower” than the college intended, with a total enrollment of 694 students and a final acceptance rate of 31.2%.
The meeting concluded with the passage of a resolution that instituted a grant system for student organizations looking to fund larger campus-wide events. A total of $12,000 per semester will be divided into grants in the amount of either $4,000, $3,000 or $2,000.
A correction was made on Oct. 11, 2025: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that the acceptance rate for the class of 2029 was 32.2%. The class of 2029 had an acceptance rate of 31.2%.
