First meet Sept 2.

Field Hockey (1-0) (0-0)

Aug 25 vs. Hofstra

W, 3-0

Field Hockey started the season on a high note with a win in the home opener. Offensive pressure was the key to success with goals coming from seniors Cody Hunsicker and Rosie Shanks (2). Sophomore goalie Sarah Park was solid in the shutout, making two saves.

First game Sept 2 at Monmouth University.

Men’s Soccer (0-2) (0-0)

Aug 25 vs Fairleigh Dickenson

L, 2-0

The offense let senior goalie Brad Seeber down in the season opener for the Leopards. Seeber had seven saves on nine shots on goal. Lafayette managed only four shots the entire game with none on goal. Evan Vare, a sophomore forward, had three of the team’s four shots.

Aug 29 at St. Francis Brooklyn

L, 2-1

Vare’s header off a free kick by sophomore midfielder Chris Gomez stood as the team’s lone goal in a match where all of the scoring took place in the first half of play. Senior goalkeeper Brian Ehrlich recorded six saves on eight shots on goal in the loss.

Women’s Soccer (1-1) (0-0)

Aug 18 vs Saint Peter’s


Aug 20 at Siena

L, 3-1

Junior midfielder Katie Brannigan netted Lafayette’s only goal in the season opener, cutting an early second half deficit. Siena answered with another goal in the 75th minute to put the game away. Freshman Maggie Pohl and senior Kelly O’Brien split keeper duties for the Leopards.

Aug 23 vs. NJIT

W, 2-1 (OT) 

The team found their first win of the season in the home opener with junior forward Alex Stanford finding the back of the net in the 95th minute to secure the overtime victory. It was a game of firsts as freshman forward Rebecca Schreiner tallied her first goal and freshman keeper Maggie Pohl made her first save of their respective Lafayette careers. 

Women’s Volleyball (1-1) (0-0)

Aug 25 vs Saint Peter’s ( at Lehigh University)

W, 3-0

Lafayette won in straight sets with the help of 14 digs by senior captain Tori Smith. After a back and forth first set, Lafayette never trailed in the final two sets. An ace by sophomore Carly Kutschke gave Lafayette the winning point in the third set.  The team won the sets 25-23, 25-18, 25-18. 

Aug 29 at La Salle

L, 3-0

The Leopards’ fortunes were reversed in their second game of the season, losing in straight sets to the Explorers of La Salle. The entire match was a back and forth affair, with neither team dominating any set until La Salle gained a 22-13 advantage in the third set that Lafayette was unable to overcome.
