Attention everyone: Fall Break is almost here. I repeat: Fall Break is coming. Gather up your professional pumpkin carving kits and whip out your Bean Boots and prepare to get all autumn up in here.
If you can’t tell, I couldn’t be more excited to drive away on Friday afternoon and set off into the distance, away from campus and into the unknown. And by unknown I mean Wayne, Pennsylvania, which is approximately one hour and ten minutes away from Easton. But you get what I mean.
Even if you won’t be going home, I’ve compiled a list of things anyone can do over break that will surely aid in the de-stressing process and get you back into the fall festivities in no time.
1) One word, two syllables, infinite possibilities: Netflix. Seeing old friends from high school you never liked? Hard pass. Maintaining your best friendship with your close and personal TV ally? Pure magic. My recommendations: Gilmore Girls (a brand new addition to Netflix and I’m over the moon about it), Breaking Bad, Sherlock, Annie Hall, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Amélie. Okay, the last one is actually fairly creepy and not that great but I try to mention the fact that I share the name of a movie any possible chance I get. Moving on.
2) Catch up on your reading. Before you completely skip over this one because you “already do enough reading at school,” just know that Amy Poehler’s new book “Yes Please” comes out soon and it’s going to be absolutely epic. Also if you haven’t yet read Mindy Kaling’s “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?” or Tina Fey’s “Bossypants” you have some serious catching up to do. Good thing you have four full days to get on that.
3) Have a picnic or bonfire outside with your buds. It also provides endless possibilities for Instagram opportunities, if you’re into that sort of thing. If not…I don’t really know what to say to you. I guess just enjoy the scenery?
4) Reconnect with your German heritage—or at least pretend you have some for authenticity’s sake— and create your own Oktoberfest at any outdoor setting with a nice beverage (Obviously talking hot apple cider or hot chocolate. Let’s keep this strictly rated-G folks).
5) Throw a major Columbus Day bash and dress up like a stoutly old man and take credit for things you didn’t actually do. Your parents will be so glad to have you home.
With these suggestions in mind, I hope you all have a wonderful and refreshing break. If you’ve taken nothing away from this, at least go get a haircut within the next four days or something. I’ve been meaning to tell you guys you’ve been looking really ratty lately. On that note—Yeager out.
