It’s the holiday season. Every year, the month of December brings several exciting festivities to our calendars. It is time to suck in the stomachs we have unfortunately acquired from the cookies and cocoa, and put on our holiday best. This week on campus, several Lafayette groups from engineering, to Greek life, to athletic teams, have hosted formal celebrations. A semi-formal affair allows for cocktail dresses, heels, suit jackets and ties. Whether you are attending a holiday party at home, a dance at school, or a religious celebration this December, be sure to break out your most fabulous attire. The glitzier the better. Dressing up for any event immediately adds another level of glamour and enjoyment. So, this holiday season, take heed to the saying, “When in doubt, overdress.”
Each week Lafayette Style columnist, Aleni Mackarey peruses the campus to find Leopard’s rocking unique and individual trends. Today’s installment features Nathan Diaz ’15 sporting a semi-formal ensemble. Let’s take a look.
Nathan Diaz ‘15
What is your class year and major?
2015 Chemical Engineering Major with an Econ minor
Where is your look from?
My mother bought this whole outfit for me. But I got the shark tie and I think it really makes the outfit. The sharks are eating the minnows on the front, and on the back there are fish bones.
To what sorts of events or places might you wear this outfit?
Formal or in class presentations.
Explain your shoe choice.
I think shoes, and specifically the condition of your shoes, is a representation of your personality. I’m not sure what color my shoes were originally, but I love the color they are now.
Do you try to coordinate your outfit with your date to a formal function?
Always.
What do you keep in the pockets of your sport jacket?
My date’s phone and a good attitude.
How could you further accessorize this look?
A tote bag with my clothes from earlier will definitely be included in my outfit this year. I’m planning on going bowling before formal, so I need a place to keep my clothes. I think tote bags are coming back in style.
What is your favorite fashion trick/trip?
Skinny arm, also rolling up my sleeves, because I read a section in Cosmo once that said girls are attracted to forearms.
Who is a fashion icon of yours? And why?
Patrick Bateman as played by Christian Bale. He’s dressed for success but can still move well.
