2024 Election Day on campus by The Lafayette Staff
I have never been prouder than seeing this story come together. We had news, culture, sports editors and writers on the scene reporting and many photographers capturing over 18 hours of Election Day on campus, in Easton and throughout the county. Then, our design team made arguably our most ambitiously formatted newspaper to date.

One country left: Lab instructor nears global travel milestone by Elisabeth Seidel ’26
No matter how many times I reread it, this article will always make me giggle. Elisabeth has a true talent for covering zany stories — such as a physics instructor en route to visit every single country — and featuring the best, most whimsical parts about it. Thank God she won an award for this one. I’d like to give her several more.

A perusal of the purse pandemic by Selma O’Malley ’26
Selma, despite her roots in news, was born for the culture section — everything she writes shines with personality. And as someone who rarely goes anywhere without her backpack, this article was an interesting glimpse into the minds of those who can bear to travel lighter.

Food Review: A hearty Valentine’s meal with Lafayette Dining by Isabella Gaglione ’25 and Elisabeth Seidel ’26
Truly a delight to read. It was descriptive to a point where I felt like I was there in the Clay Ketchum faculty dining room next to Lis and Bella enjoying a delicious Mexican-inspired Valentine’s meal.

‘Land Development-Surveying’ students invade Quad with yellow tripods by Isabella Gaglione ’25
Civil engineering getting the recognition it deserves!!! Land Development and Surveying was one of my favorite civil engineering classes. It gives civil engineering students hands-on experience for the first time in undergrad, which is an invaluable experience. I love the civil engineering representation and finally answering the question the people have been asking: what are the yellow tripods?!

Bear spotted near Easton Hall by Selma O’Malley ’26
Not only did this article have a few interesting facts, such as there have been no fatal black bear attacks in Pennsylvania, but I also love bears. At my house, there are a few bears that roam around, they’re all very cute and fluffy. The wildlife around campus, like the deer, aren’t appreciated enough. And though a bear being outwardly aggressive is rare #donottouchabear.

Local Easton newspaper to shut down print production in 2025 by Victoria Hneleski ’25
I know the death of print media doesn’t look great for our primarily print newspaper, but I can now objectively say we’re the best in town. #victory

‘We may have gone a bit over the top’: LAF holds rivalry office decorating competition by Elisabeth Seidel ’26
Fun competition, and a horse in the newspaper? There’s something great about this article where you get cool details about the competitors, and also get that feel-good Rivalry Week spirit by reading it.

Daveed Diggs’ tour de Lafayette by Isabella Gaglione ’25
This article is just so good. It’s interesting, it’s well-written and it’s CULTURE. And for me, that’s incredible.

Athletic history of history department head by Selma O’Malley ’26
This article is the best of sports profiles — Selma takes us back in time to Professor Pite’s time as a two-sport athlete while keeping it all tied to the present. Big shout out to Selma for writing for sports when we needed writers this year!!

Tim Walz visits Lehigh Valley, emphasizes Northampton County importance by Clara Witmer ’27 and William Gutiérrez ’27
It was such a cool experience being immersed in a local display of national politics with my fellow student journalists. The writers did a great job highlighting the importance of Lehigh Valley voters to the outcome of the presidential election through their thorough reporting in this article. Overall, I’m very proud of the editors’ collaborative and compelling election coverage this year.

Pardee pathway interrupted by sinkhole by Elisabeth Seidel ’26
I liked this article because it was about a giant hole in the ground. I also felt reassured when Prof. Germanoski clarified that it was highly unlikely for Pardee to fall into the hole.

A relic of love outside of South by Allison Stein ’27
Such a cute and fun story that I really enjoyed reading! Also, I love newspaper stories about past Lafayette students and what their lives were like, and I think this is a great example of that.

‘Everything was normal and then nothing was normal’ by Selma O’Malley ’26, Isabella Gaglione ’25, Andreas Pelekis ’26, Clara Witmer ’27 and Elisabeth Seidel ’26
An incredibly comprehensive story that truly exemplifies what journalism should be: a record of stories from voices that would otherwise have been forgotten.

I actually really enjoyed seeing this in theaters with my friends. Sorry Sam.

Sidelines: Super Bowl LIX preview by Benjamin White ’27
Whenever I’m in need of a good laugh, this article never fails to deliver (unlike the Chiefs in the Super Bowl).

Men’s basketball falls at LaSalle, earns nail-biting 1st victory against Penn by Grace Sanborn ’25
I love, love, love, love, love this lede. Exhibit A of why writers being at games is precious because otherwise, we would never have gotten this gem.
