Lehigh football head coach Andy Coen has suspended four players indefinitely for an assault that occurred outside Leon’s bar in Bethlehem, The Brown and White reported Wednesday.
The suspensions were announced on Wednesday after Paul Graham, a senior marketing student at Lehigh, suffered multiple facial fractures after being kicked in the face by one member of the group.
Russhon Phillips ‘15, a sophomore defensive back and member of the business school, has been taken into custody and was being held at Northampton County jail on $75,000 bail at press time on Wednesday.
One member of the group was charged with aggravated assault while another member was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct for initiating the fight. The last member of the group may face additional charges pending photo identification from a witness present at the scene.
“This is the first time I have had to deal with this sort of incident in eight years,” Coen said in a statement released Wednesday. “Obviously I’m not very happy. We talk to our players all the time that they’re accountable for decisions they make. Obviously they’ve made a poor decision and we’re going to hold them accountable.”
Further details of the incident are under investigation.
