Lafayette football coach Frank Tavani is currently recovering after undergoing a procedure to repair two 99-percent blockages in the main artery to his heart earlier this week, The Morning Call reported on Tuesday.

Tavani started experiencing chest pains the week prior and a heart catheterization on Monday exposed the blockages. He was then released from the Easton Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after Dr. Joseph Schiavone of the Easton Cardiovascular Associates repaired the blockages by inserting stents.

Tavani told Paul Reinhard of The Morning Call on Tuesday, “I’m a little wiped out. I couldn’t ask for better care than I’ve received here from Dr. Schiavone [of Easton Cardiovascular Associates.]”

Tavani originally visited with Dr. Jeffery Goldstein, the Lafayette school physician, on Friday. Goldstein then sent the 15-year head coach to the emergency room.

Tavani, 60, also told Reinhard that he plans on making lifestyle changes and that “You’ll see a different man by the time summer camp opens.”

“[The players, coaches and the college] still get 150 percent of me.”
