The Lafayette has always been committed to covering stories accurately and fairly. We are the oldest college newspaper in Pennsylvania and we respect the weight of that title to deliver the facts of a story in a concise and impartial fashion.
The newspaper should be reflective of the campus community. It should cover stories relevant to students, teachers, faculty and staff. It should engage the community, reporting on major issues affecting the campus. We are public servants, delivering news to create a better informed public.
There is still work to be done and we are interested in hearing your feedback. You can give us your suggestions, comments and questions on our Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as the comment section of our website. The newsroom door is always open to those who wish to suggest changes to the paper, comment on articles or suggest story ideas.
As the varieties of different types of media grow in the new century, the amount of ways to tell a story is limitless. During my time at the paper, I would like to increase our usage of multimedia and expand our web presence. Our ability to tell stories effectively and engross the Lafayette community will progress as we move forward with this goal.
But the Lafayette is also lacking a page dedicated to the students’ opinions and views on political, economic and social issues both on and off campus. We are looking for writers who would like start columns for an opinion section of the paper. Not only will the paper publish stories relating to campus, but also create a space for all students to voice their views on numerous noteworthy topics on campus and throughout the world.
It will be a pleasure working with the Lafayette’s staff this semester. We have a team of talented writers, editors, photographers and designers who are committed to producing a well-written and visually appealing newspaper.
I accepted the role as Editor-in-Chief with a sense of solemn responsibility. Although I came into the role in the midst of a hectic fall semester, I look forward to continuing the Lafayette’s long history of delivering important news, arts and sports to the campus with brevity and integrity.
Yours,
William W. Gordon
Editor-in-Chief
