Grammy-winning classical music ensemble Takács Quartet to bring intimate and complex performance
March 4, 2022
One of the world’s most distinguished string ensembles will be taking the stage at the Williams Center for the Arts next week on March 9.
The Takács Quartet is entering its 47th season after receiving the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. The quartet consists of violinists Edward Dusinberre and Harumi Rhodes, violist Richard O’Neill and cellist András Fejér. Julien Labro will also be accompanying them on the bandoneon.
Markus Dubischar, dean of curriculum and associate professor of classics, will be giving a pre-concert talk about the Takács Quartet to provide more insight into the performance.
Dubischar said that he was “intrigued by the bandoneon and the nuance that it brings to the performance.”
He also hopes that the quartet will push audiences into the classical space.
“What you can expect from this show is a strong sense of intimacy, given the small number of instruments and musicians on stage. Additionally, each instrument brings its own flavor whilst creating complex music,” Dubischar said.
The quartet will be performing a piece by Stephen Hough as well as commissioned works by Clarice Assad and Bryce Dessner.
Tickets are priced at $33 for the general public and $6 for other students and other youth. The performance is free for Lafayette students. Tickets can be purchased from the Williams Center for the Arts tickets website.
