Dear Lafayette community,

At the end of my second year as editor-in- chief, it’s hard to believe how far the paper has come.

The cycle of news and pressure of the deadline is stressful, and The Lafayette’s staff has worked extremely hard to produce engaging and well-designed content every week.

This includes the members of our staff that are graduating at the end of the year. I must say goodbye to our managing editor, Dan Lupia ‘16, and our news editor, Christina Shaman ‘16.

Lupia’s keen insight on story ideas during editorial meetings will be missed, and Shaman’s writing and reporting on stories throughout her time on the paper has been insurmountable.

Throughout the year, we have addressed the important issues of today in articles relating to the college. As conversations about race, sustainability, financial aid, sexual assault and unequal pay for men and women are prominent in our nation’s discourse, these discussions are also reflected in the pages of The Lafayette.

From overcoming funding troubles last year to reporting with brevity and integrity, The Lafayette was an independent news source for the campus. And next year, we will continue to do just that. Ian Morse ‘17 will coming back as our managing editor, Caroline Nawrocki ‘18 as design director, Kathryn Kelly ‘19 as news editor, Jay Bickford as arts editor and Rachel Robertson ‘18 and Michael Keating ‘17 will be heading the sports section.
