While most students went home for fall break, several sports teams had competitions. Here are all the results you might have missed over the break.
Field hockey
The field hockey team (3-1 Patriot League, 9-6 overall) hosted Lehigh University (1-3 Patriot League, 6-7 overall) for its rivalry matchup on Oct. 11, trouncing the Mountain Hawks 5-0.
The Leopards remained at home on Oct. 13, falling to no. 15 UMass (12-4 overall) 1-0. The Maroon and White held the Minutewomen scoreless through three quarters, but an early fourth-quarter goal decided the match.
Football
The football team (1-1 Patriot League, 4-3 overall) recorded its first Patriot League loss of the season on Oct. 12, falling to Georgetown University (1-1 Patriot League, 4-3 overall) at Fisher Stadium 17-0. Plagued by turnovers, the offense could not string together meaningful drives. Junior quarterback Dean DeNobile was picked off four times throughout the game, putting pressure on the Leopards’ defense.
Golf
The golf team traveled to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to compete in the Bucknell Invitational from Oct. 13-15. The team finished eighth out of 18 teams in the 54-hole stroke play tournament.
Freshman Travis Robertson, who was competing as an individual, was the top finisher for the Leopards after carding a 3-under 67 on the final day to finish in eighth overall at 1-over for the tournament (70-74-67).
Soccer
The women’s soccer team (2-2-3 Patriot League, 5-5-3 overall) continued its strong run of play over fall break, drawing two matches.
The Leopards battled Boston University (4-0-3 Patriot League, 4-7-5 overall) to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 12 at home. Junior forward Katrina Santelli got the Leopards on the board early after a seventh-minute goal, but the Terriers battled back and found the equalizer in the 75th minute.
The Leopards then traveled to Patriot League heavyweight Army (4-2-1 Patriot League, 10-4-1 overall) on Oct. 16, earning a 0-0 draw. Despite being outshot 16-8, the Maroon and White kept the Black Knights out of the goal thanks to seven saves from sophomore goalkeeper Catherine Apker.
The men’s soccer team (2-3-1 Patriot League, 7-5-3 overall) went 2-0 over break, beating Holy Cross (2-3-1 Patriot League, 3-9-3 overall) 2-0 at Gummeson Grounds on Oct. 12 before edging Le Moyne (6-2-4 overall) 2-1 away on Oct. 15. Despite being outshot 10-7 by Holy Cross, the Leopards made the most of their chances, with goals from senior forward Lawrence Aydlett and freshman midfielder Cade Maglione.
The Maroon and White continued their momentum against Le Moyne, once again striking first off a goal from freshman forward Gabe Faust in the 26th minute. Despite conceding to the Dolphins late in the first half, sophomore dual midfielder and forward Max Fujimori put the Leopards back on top in the 79th minute.
Tennis
The men’s and women’s tennis teams each hosted their first matches of the season over fall break. The women faced East Stroudsburg University on Oct. 11, while the men hosted Franklin and Marshall on Oct. 12.
The women swept ESU 7-0, winning all their matches without dropping a single set.
The men’s match against F&M was much closer, with the Maroon and White winning 4-3. The Leopards took the doubles point, then senior first singles Arman Ganchi coasted to a straight-set victory, and junior Nick McKenzie and sophomore Derrin Lerner battled back from first-set losses to take their matches. F&M won the final three singles matches.
Volleyball
The volleyball team (1-8 Patriot League, 6-12 overall) dropped two home games over fall break, losing 3-0 to Army (4-5 Patriot League, 8-10 overall) on Oct. 11, then Navy (4-5 Patriot League, 4-14 overall) 3-1 the next day. The Leopards’ second-set win marked their first set in six games since their 3-0 win against Holy Cross on Sept. 21.
