The men’s golf team competed in its last competition of the fall semester at the two-day Lehigh Invitational at Grace Course of the Saucon Valley Country Club. The team placed sixth out of nine participating schools last weekend.
The team came off an eight-place outing of 18 teams at the Bucknell Invitational and was looking to maintain its momentum to finish out the season.
“We were feeling good going into this past weekend after a solid finish at Bucknell,” senior Sean Saw wrote in an email. “We’ve played Lehigh’s course multiple times and were prepared for difficult conditions going into it.”
Through the first day, senior Quint Dingledine tied for third with an even-par outing. On Sunday, Dingledine shot six-over-par, tying him in seventh place overall in the invitational for the 45-golfer field.
“Although I didn’t play my best this week, I felt that I did a great job holding my rounds together,” Dingledine wrote in an email. “I was proud of the way I finished.”
Junior Harry Dessel tied for 16th, shooting five-over-par on both rounds one and two.
Three Leopards were part of a four-way tie for 33rd place, including Saw, freshman Travis Robertson and sophomore Winston Kelenc-Blank.
“I would say the scores did not reflect how I played out there,” Saw wrote in an email. “I hit the ball great, but struggled putting like most people within the tournament.”
Junior Valdemar Kofod-Olsen was the final of the six Maroon and White participants to place, carding 85 and 86 on the outing.
“I thought all of us hung in there really well,” Dingledine wrote. “With nine holes to play in the second round, we were only one shot off the lead.”
“Although we didn’t end up finishing where we wanted, I think this showed a lot of the guys that if we play well, we can easily win these tournaments,” he continued.
Having wrapped up its fall semester of gameplay, the team now looks to prepare for the spring semester of continued conference play.
“Our goal is always to be in contention for a Patriot League Championship at the end of the year,” Saw wrote. “This starts with getting better with every practice moving forward and starting the spring season with that mentality.”
Dingledine shared similar aspirations.
“It would mean a lot for us to win a tournament,” Dingledine wrote. “Lafayette hasn’t gotten a team win in over 4 years and it would mean a lot for us confidence-wise, especially as we start focusing on Patriots.”
