An explosion in an Easton apartment on Monday killed a man in his residence, according to Easton Police Department Lieutenant Matthew Gerould.
The explosion took place around the 700 block of West Milton Street at 9:30 p.m., where the 26-year-old victim was found on a sidewalk in front of the residence, said Gerould. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he passed away from his injuries. As of Wednesday, his identity is unknown.
Police are investigating whether a self-explosive device was used in the incident, according to Gerould. He declined to comment further on what device may have been used or what investigative progress has been made by law enforcement in the days since the incident.
Gerould added that the explosion was confined to just one room.
“We believe there’s no other danger to the public and we’re not seeking any other individuals relating to the incident,” he said.
The Easton Police Department, Northampton County Coroner’s Office and Easton Fire Department are conducting the ongoing investigation, according to a news release. Lafayette College Director of Public Safety Jeff Troxell said that the college did not report to the scene of the explosion and is not involved in the investigation.
