To our readers,
Without a journalism major or minor at Lafayette College, The Lafayette is the best opportunity for students to practice and interact with journalism on campus, but there is only so much we can learn from within the bubble in which we work.
In the past year, we have pushed to reintegrate The Lafayette into the national college media scene, applying for awards and reaching out to the student newspapers of peer institutions, just to talk and build connections. We have also renewed our membership with the Associated Collegiate Press, an arm of the National Scholastic Press Association that aims to educate, connect and develop collegiate journalists. It was this push that got us nominated for an award that will be presented later this month at an Associated Collegiate Press conference.
At the ACP conference, we can sit in on panels covering editorial work, election coverage, newspaper finance and media law. We plan to interact with students from colleges and universities across the country to better our reporting, writing and editing skills. Hopefully, we will come back to Easton with an award in hand.
We want to invest in our writers and editors. We want to equip The Lafayette with the knowledge, resources and inspiration it needs to reach, and surpass, what is expected of it. But, it costs a lot to produce a newspaper every week, leaving us without funds to finance such opportunities.
So, we ask you, if you feel so inclined, to please consider donating to our Leopard Link and help secure the foundations of Lafayette’s independent student journalism. As we build upon our journalism skills and make The Lafayette the best it can be, a little goes a long way.
Best,
Isabella Gaglione ’25
