On a typical day, members of The Lafayette community could walk by the newsroom in Farinon and see staff members editing and writing articles, designing layout, and keeping up with the “this just in’s.” In the past, the newsroom has hosted Newsic Nights— small, low-maintenance concerts— for the newspaper staff and friends. This evening, Newsic Nights are returning in order to provide a relaxed environment to get creativity flowing.
Students John Favini ‘14, JP Bisciotti ‘15, Kyle Tucker ‘14, and Kevin Jackson ‘16 will be tonight’s performing act. While these students have performed plenty separately, they just recently came together to form their musical group, Big Mountain Blue. Their first big event was playing together at Lafayette Activities Forum’s Fall Fest last semester.
At this evening’s Newsic Night, the band will be performing a mixture of covers and original pieces written by Jackson. The group typically plays acoustic, indie, and folk music. Some of their usual covers include “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers, the folk ballad “Fare Thee Well,” and songs by Sondre Lerche.
“No matter what we play, it’ll be toe tapping fun,” Bisciotti said.
After the event on Friday, which will be in the newsroom and is open to the public, Big Mountain Blue’s performance will be posted on The Lafayette’s website (lafayettestudentnews.com) under the “Newsic Nights” tab. Be sure to check Big Mountain Blue’s sound and stay tuned for future Newsic Night updates.
