Whether it is the leaves changing palette, the brisk morning air, or pumpkin flavor fests everywhere, it is safe to say autumn has arrived on College Hill. And with the beginning of the year’s most colorful season, there are certain fall activities you cannot miss in the Lehigh Valley.
For those wishing to pick and carve pumpkins, there is Raub’s Pumpkin Patch located within ten minutes away from Lafayette College. At Raub’s you can enjoy a pumpkin patch, hayrides, and a corn maze. A bit farther out is also Seiple Farms, a classic farm featuring a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, as well as various farm animals and pony rides. Both locations also feature homemade snacks to accompany your fall festivities.
If it’s apple picking you desire, visit Mackey’s Orchard for all the pick-your-own apples your autumn spirit desires. While there, you may also check out their Greenhouse for the season’s prettiest florals as well as the farm stand for all types of homemade jam, honey, as well as fresh eggs and all other healthy goodies local farms provide.
If you do not have access to transportation or wish to stay local, be sure to visit the Easton Farmer’s Market for all of the above except already picked for you. There are also several events coming to Center Square this upcoming month, including Apple Jam and Bacon Fest. Apple Jam, as the name indicates, is all about apples. Whether it is a sampling of over 22 apple varieties or an apple pie bake-off, you will truly get your fill of apples at the event happening October 11. Bacon Festival, a food-lover’s favorite, will return even bigger, better, and more bacony than ever before on November 8 and 9.
For those who like to experience autumn by foot, Easton and its surrounding areas offer many beautiful hiking and walking trails. Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary, located near Lafayette College, is a two hundred acre park concentrated on protecting and exhibiting wildlife while also providing its visitors with trails to hike. Another close by spot for outdoorsy students is Bushkill Creek, a lovely trail for a leisurely stroll or a jog. Farther away in Pike County is a trail leading to “The Knob,” one of Lehigh Valley’s most fascinating lookout points.
Thus, regardless of what you wish for this coming sweater-weather season, you are certain to find what you are looking for be it bacon or pumpkin spice lattes.
