To the editorial team of The Lafayette,
This is Daniel Hoover, president of the Astronomy Club. I gave an interview last Monday with William Gutiérrez. When I gave an estimate of an interval of 50-60 years between eclipses in the U.S., it turns out I was badly mistaken.
Total solar eclipses actually occur within the continuous 48 U.S. states every 10-20 years, with eclipses like the one on April 8 (visible from more than a few states) occurring every 20-30 years. The next one with visibility from more than four states will be in 2045, tracing out a path from California to Florida.
