Lafayette College offers an array of club sports for students to participate in, giving individuals the opportunity to continue playing sports from high school at a less competitive level or to try something new. Here’s what some of them are up to this semester:
Ballet
Ballet club is coming off a variety of performances last year, including a showcase at the end of the spring semester.
Junior president Yuko Tanaka wrote in an email that she hopes the club will organize both technique and stretch classes.
“We are planning to perform in the Dance Company’s showcase this semester and we hope to prepare a couple of dances for it!” Tanaka wrote.
“Ballet club is excited to welcome new members of all different levels of experience this semester,” she continued. “We hope to put together a great show and are excited to have fun on the way!”
Club tennis
The co-ed club tennis team is trying to make a racket on the club tennis scene this season.
“We had a few tournaments, a few scrimmages, but I think this year we’re really going to be focusing on playing more matches, getting out to other schools, getting more tournaments,” senior club president David Levchenko said. “It’s just a great environment for everyone to have fun, play sports and it’s really a community.”
Crew
The crew team is coming off a dominating season last year and is looking to build upon its successes.
“Last season went very well for our team, we had all four of our crews we sent to the club national championship make the finals,” senior president Aaron Sigmond-Warner wrote in an email. “This semester we have several head races we plan to attend and have submitted bids for the largest race, the Head of the Charles, which our women’s collegiate four won in 2022.”
Men’s club basketball
Coming after its first season rejoining the National Club Basketball Association, men’s club basketball is looking to build off of an impactful year.
“Last season, I think we really took some progress and steps forward in building out the club,” junior president Keith Konigsberg said. “We played some pretty high competition against other schools like Lehigh, Princeton and other schools kind of near us.”
“Our goals for this season, we just want to improve, get more organized, try to keep building up and really make this a good thing for the future,” he added.
Men’s ice hockey
After a long departure from the rink, men’s club ice hockey is returning to action looking for a competitive season.
“The team has not run in any competitive fashion since before COVID,” senior treasurer Michael Martirano said. “This is our first year back basically.”
“This is just the season to prove that we’re back,” he continued.
Prestigious Pardettes
Following their first-ever showcase last fall, the Prestigious Pardettes are returning for more campus activity this year.
“Last season was definitely a great season for the team because we had the opportunity to do more performances on campus throughout the semester and also got invited to Albright College to perform for Xion Step and Dance team,” senior president Janiya Hood wrote in an email. “We have been scheduled to perform for two football games which are on October 12th and 19th. We will also be hosting a fall showcase, we will be announcing the date soon!”
Ultimate frisbee
Club ultimate is looking to return to tournament action and remain involved on campus.
Junior president Jordan Ellis said that the team is looking to “bring the spirit of keeping Ultimate really fun to the student body and to anyone who wants to join that community of people who want to learn a new sport and also just have fun with it.”
Women’s lacrosse
Women’s club lacrosse is also looking forward to welcoming new members this semester after a successful season last year.
“In the spring semester, we registered for the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Organization (WCLO) for a second year,” junior Katie Acquilano wrote in an email. “Being a part of this league has allowed us to have a more consistent schedule and play other schools across the Northeast.”
