The Student Government meeting on Sept. 26 covered the presentation of Lafayette’s strategic plan draft and several administrative announcements.
The Sept. 19 minutes were approved despite the meeting being rendered null due to the agenda being posted only six hours before. The bylaws dictate that meetings are only valid if the agenda is publicly posted a minimum of 12 hours before the meeting. This is the second week in a row where minutes for an invalid meeting were approved.
College President Nicole Hurd presented the college’s new strategic plan draft in a presentation as part of a series of strategic plan listening sessions. This was the first time a student group on campus was presented with the strategic plan draft. There was no further comment on the strategic plan after the presentation, but Hurd encouraged Student Government members to provide feedback via a QR code.
In committee reports, the academics committee presented the next steps for a textbook donation library. The student organization committee discussed setting a precedent for what clubs will or will not be approved on campus going forward. The accessibility ad hoc committee is continuing its work to address accessibility concerns raised during the first-year orientation program and orientation leader training.
The meeting ended with the review of budget requests from five student organizations. The revised requests were all approved, despite two being marked as incorrect submissions: Pards Against Sexual Assault and Newman Catholic.
