The track and field team traveled to Staten Island, New York, to take on the Fast Track Invite last Saturday afternoon.
In the field events, senior Julia Greeley led the way for the women with a 12′ 11.5″ pole vault finish, tying the school record.
“It was insanely rewarding, but I think I still have a lot of work to do,” Greeley said. “We’ve still got two meets left before the Patriot League meet, and it’s great that I was able to tie the record midway through the season, but it’s really this Patriot League meet that matters the most.”
As a senior, Greeley noted that she only had so many opportunities left to take a crack at the school record.
“I’ve only got three meets left indoors ever,” Greeley said. “I only have so many shots to clear the school record or to break it, and so I’m trying to compete as well as I can, as many times as I can before indoor ends.”
In addition to Greeley’s performance, sophomore Katherine Crotty finished sixth in the long jump open with a 16′ 4.5″, and senior Erin O’Leary placed fifth in the weight throw at 50′ 9″.
In the track events, junior Maeve Waldron finished the 200-meter with a 25.43, good for fifth place, while freshman Cate Guilfoyle placed eighth in the 60-meter dash at 8.23.
“I came pretty close to a personal record, so that can be seen as both a good thing and a bad thing,” Waldron said. “I think with every meet, there’s some progression in different aspects of the race, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.”
For the men, freshman Kaseme Leckie and sophomore John Liedtka backed up last week’s strong performances against Lehigh, finishing sixth in the 60-meter dash with a 6.96 time and 11th in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.57 respectively.
The men saw less success in the field events, as freshman J.T. Cook earned 12th in the long jump at 21′ 4.75″, and sophomore Andrew Harrison placed 20th in the long jump open at 19′ 3.5″.
“I would say we had some ups and downs,” Harrison said. “It was definitely not one of our best performances as a team. But then again, we had a lot of our guys injured. A lot of our guys took the week off.”
“The people that did compete, they went out there, they competed hard,” he continued.
The team will return to action on Saturday at the Widener Indoor Classic, the second-to-last meet before the Patriot League Championships.
“I feel like we’re in one of the best positions we’ve been in in the past few years,” Harrison said. “This year kind of just has a different vibe to it, a different feel to it. Everyone is a lot more locked in.”
