Easton Police arrested Joel Hindelang ‘12 and charged him with driving under the influence on the 600 block of High Street on Oct. 6 at 2:18 a.m. Hindelang was serving as the assistant volleyball coach, but has since resigned from the position, as confirmed by Director of Athletics Bruce McCutcheon. A court appearance is scheduled to take place.
According to Assistant Director of Public Safety Jim Meyer, Hindelang was stopped by Lafayette Public Safety due to probable cause in front of the Grossman House, just beyond the Hamilton Street intersection. Hindelang’s vehicle was in motion and headed east, but was in compliance with the posted speed limit. No passengers were present in his car. His blood alcohol level and vehicle model could not be released by public safety due to the ongoing investigation.
McCutcheon declined further comment on the issue, saying he could not discuss personnel matters. Members of the volleyball team were instructed not to comment if asked about the incident, according to a player.
Hindelang joined the volleyball team as a student assistant in July of 2011. He was President of the Delta Upsilon International Fraternity from January to December of 2011. He currently is a project engineer for Blue Rock Construction, Inc. in Allentown, Pa.
