Women’s lacrosse couldn’t have had a better start to their season, opening the spring schedule with a blowout win at St. Bonaventure last Sunday. The 18-1 win saw four Leopards notch multi-goal games, with senior midfielder Hannah Davey and senior attacker Jane Kirby leading the way with four apiece. Sophomore attacker Anna Stein contributed a hat trick and junior midfielder Bella Alampi added a pair of goals.
“I would say most of us expected to win, but we thought it’d be a fight,” sophomore midfielder Mae Mullany wrote in an email. “I did not expect us to win by as much as we did, but nonetheless it was awesome. I think it will give us momentum and confidence going into our season.”
Mullany also noted that junior midfielder Katie DeMarino and sophomore goalie Quinn Lacy performed well for the Leopards. Lacy got the start in goal and made 11 saves with just one goal allowed.
Though it was just 54 seconds into the game that the Bonnies took the lead with an early goal, it took the Leopards less than two and a half minutes to tie it up, with a Davey goal assisted by Kirby.
The Leopards never looked back after taking the lead on Stein’s first goal of the game three minutes after Davey’s. Lafayette put up 32 shots in the game: four missed the goal entirely, and 28 were on goal, 18 of which found the back of the net. Just three of the Leopard scores were assisted.
The team will look to continue their success in their home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. against Iona.
“If we can work on cleaning up our play, and limiting unforced errors we will have a great season,” Mullany wrote.
