Sept. 14 vs. Sacred Heart University

Freshman quarterback Keegan Shoemaker set a Lafayette record with 545 total yards of offense, and freshman wide receiver Joe Gillette added a 44-yard rushing touchdown. Senior wide receiver Nick Pearson and Gillette both tallied over 100 receiving yards on the day, but the offense couldn’t keep up with the Pioneers in the shootout.
Cross country
Sept. 14. @ Lehigh Dual Meet
Both the men’s and women’s teams lost to the rival Mountain Hawks but had several runners place in the top-10. For the men, sophomore Brian Clayton finished fourth overall, out of 26, with a time of 25:41.9, just seven seconds behind the top runner from Lehigh. For the women, sophomore Autumn Sands finished fifth in 22:23.3 to lead the Leopards.

Sept. 13 vs. Providence
L, 1-0 (SO)
Senior goalie Sarah Park made six saves in regulation and overtime combined to shut out the Friars, but the Leopards lost in the shootout. Freshman defender Simone Hefting notched a shootout goal, but that’s all the team could gain in the loss.
Sept. 15 vs. Richmond
W, 2-1
Senior midfielder Jenn DeLongis scored in regulation and Hefting had the game-winning overtime goal to break the team’s four-game losing streak. Park recorded another seven saves and was named the Patriot League Goalie of the Week, while Hefting earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
Golf
Sept. 14-15
The Leopards finished in third place out of 14 teams, beating Patriot League opponents Holy Cross and Lehigh in the process. Sophomore Kazuki Osawa tied for first place with a grand total 206, after shooting a tournament-best 64 during the final round on Sunday. Junior Brendan Cronin and sophomore Ryan Tall tied for 11th place with final scores of 212.
Men’s soccer (4-1-1) (0-0)
Sept. 13 @ Temple University
L, 3-0
The Leopards were outshot 17-3 in their first loss of the season, with senior forward James Gibson and senior defender Christian Williams accounting for the only two shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Sutton made nine saves and played all 90 minutes.
Sept. 17 @ La Salle University
W, 3-0
Lafayette matched their best start through six games since 2009 with their fourth win of the season over the Explorers. Senior midfielder Ryan Goncalves scored twice, one coming off an assist from junior defender Andrew Venezia, while sophomore midfielder Sebastian Varela notched his fourth goal of the season with a strike in the 80th minute. Sutton made four saves for his fourth shutout of the season.
Men’s tennis
Sept. 13-15
Freshmen Ryan Thompson and Nash Lovallo each won a singles match before joining forces to triumph in their doubles match, 6-1. Senior Paul Caruso and junior Brandt Baldwin emerged victorious in their two doubles matches, with Baldwin adding a singles win in the afternoon. Sophomore William Barry won two singles matches and paired with junior Dan Kramer to clinch a doubles game 6-4.
Women’s soccer (4-3-1) (0-0)
Sept. 15 vs. Marist College
W, 2-1
Junior forward Rebecca Schreiner had a hand in both Lafayette goals, assisting on senior midfielder/forward Abbie Bresnahan’s goal in the 33rd minute before tallying the game-winning goal in the 56th minute. The Leopards kick off conference play tomorrow at home against Bucknell University.
Volleyball (6-5) (0-0)
Sept. 13 vs. Merrimack College
W, 3-0
The Leopards won in straight sets, 25-13, 25-22, 25-18, with senior outside hitter Katrina Ruggiero and sophomore outside hitter Grace Tulevech recording 11 kills apiece. Junior setter Jenna Bailey and senior setter Julia Howard tallied 18 and 17 assists, respectively.
Sept. 14 vs. Delaware State University
W, 3-0
Lafayette held an advantage in kills (37-27), aces (6-3), blocks (11-4), assists (35-27), and digs (46-34) in the three-set win. Tulevech contributed 12 kills while sophomore outside hitter Leanna Deegan chipped in 11. Ruggiero added 14 digs and an ace, while Howard racked up 17 assists in the afternoon.
Sept. 14 vs. Siena College

The final match of the weekend set proved to be the closest, as Lafayette narrowly won in straight sets, 28-26, 25-21 and 28-26. The teams were close statistically, with the Leopards holding a slight advantage in blocks (11-10) and digs (56-53), while Siena narrowly edged out Lafayette in kills (46-45), aces (2-1) and assists (42-41). The team has now won more games (6) this season than they won all last season (5).
