For students looking for a way to get into the holiday spirit, Allentown’s Parks and Recreation Department has gone above and beyond in organizing fun and festive events for Lehigh Valley residents. This season brings the return of one of Allentown’s most popular holiday events, Lights in the Parkway.

According to the Lights in the Parkway webpage, the show brings drivers through a magical holiday light show that boasts both animated light displays and music. The Lights in the Parkway show transforms a mile of the Lehigh Parkway into a “winter wonderland.”

Now in its 21st season, the annual event has evolved into a tradition for Allentown and much of the Lehigh Valley. The attraction includes tunnels and holiday scenes recreated in lights and according to the webpage, the light show uses energy-efficient LED lights and converts more existing displays each year to LED bulbs.

For the seventh year in a row, the city of Allentown has partnered with Run Lehigh Valley for a Lights in the Parkway 5K and Walk, which took place on Nov. 22.

The route is definitely worth visiting for its charming Gift Barn at the end, which features a selection of decorations, ornaments and snacks for visitors.

Lights in the Parkway opened for the season on Nov. 24 and will be open Wednesdays through Sundays all the way through Dec. 17. The light show will also be open every night from Dec. 20 to Dec. 31 from 5:30 p.m to 10 p.m, but will be closed on Christmas day.

Tickets are $15 per car, $25 per van, minibus or limo, and $45 per bus and may be purchased online for discounted rates.
