Any chance for a Patriot League Tournament berth for Lafayette women’s soccer died on Wednesday night when the Leopards lost to Bucknell 1-0.
Lafayette (5-9-1, 1-6 PL) had to win its remaining league games to make the tournament. However, the Leopards lost its previous four contests before Bucknell and were shutout twice.
Bucknell capitalized in the 62 minute on a header off of a cross. Lafayette goalkeeper Danielle Sedillo ‘17 made five saves throughout the game.
Bucknell outshot Lafayette 10-5 but Lafayette had five corners to the Bison’s three, yet could not capitalize.
Prior to the game, defensive center midfielder Kelly Boyce ‘15 said, “We aren’t getting beaten by much. The other teams have just managed to find a way to get that winning goal. Our effort is always there and we know what we need to do when we go into the games, our only problem is finding a way to put the ball in the net.”
Last weekend, Lafayette lost to American University also by a score of 1-0. Sedillo matched her career high in saves with six but an early second half goal proved to be the game winner.
“The goal scored in the American game was that of an impressive individual effort by a lone American attacker who carried the ball past the back line for a shot on goal,” Caroline Craver ‘15 said.
Lafayette returns to Oaks Stadium on Saturday night to take on Army before wrapping up its season against Loyola Maryland on November 2.
