The internet celebrity Michael Breach, better known as “BaristArt” joins the college in celebrating rivalry week today. With over 80,000 followers on Instagram and over 7,000 likes on Facebook, Breach is well-known for his unique portraits made in lattes.
Breach’s career as a “latte artist” began around four or five years ago, Breach said in an interview. While he had always had an interest in latte art, Breach noted that starting his career “changed his life.” According to Breach, he never could have imagined himself doing latte art for a living because it was something that had never been done before.
According to Breach, he found that latte art was getting less and less interesting as time went on, so he decided to give up his job working as a barista in a hotel. Originally from Maryland, he eventually decided to move to Brooklyn, NY to start his own business.
In less than three months, Breach’s creations went viral on the internet, he said. Breach’s well-known latte art has attracted audiences from around the world. Breach said he now does special events in places like Australia and South Africa. He was once invited to do a latte art show at a special party hosted by the Prince of Kuwait, he added.
Currently, Breach also works with Marvel Studios, traveling to the studios at least once a month to help design characters, he said. According to Breach, he grew up drawing super heroes and comics and has always kept up drawing as a hobby.
Lafayette will be Breach’s first experience performing at a college, he said.
Photos of Michael’s latte art can be found on his Instagram page. One work shows an image of Taylor Swift and is captioned “Look what you made me brew.”
Breach will be making latte art for students in Farinon today from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m.
