Interviewee: Haley Trowbridge ‘12

Location of interview: Skillman Library steps and the Quad

Carolyn Spalding: Where are you from?

Haley Trowbridge: North Potomac, Md.

CS: What are you wearing?

HT: My dress is from a thrift store in Paris; the jean jacket and shoes are from Urban Outfitters; and the tights and socks are both fromMonoprix. It’s kind of like the French version of Target.

CS: French clothing?! When did you go to France?

HT: I studied abroad in Paris last fall.

CS: Would you say that’s one of your style inspirations?

HT: Yes, but I think my sister is a bigger influence on my look. She’s younger and kind of ‘fashionably outrageous.’ She got me into cropping my own t-shirts. We shop together a lot.

CS: Does she shop at Urban Outfitters too? Is it a staple in your wardrobe?

HT: Yeah, it’s definitely one of our go-to places. I don’t really dress my age all the time. I go for a more casual, punky look, and Urban usually has what I’m looking for. I wear this jacket with everything.

CS: What are some of your other style influences?

HT: My friends from home are all really into fashion, but they like big designer names. I think a lot of people at Lafayette dress in a similarly sophisticated way, but I don’t see myself being able to pull off high-heeled boots! I get more of my inspiration from art and movies from the eighties and nineties.

CS: How did that come about?

HT: I’m an English major with a concentration in film studies, and I have an art minor. I love art and movies! They help me get creative with my wardrobe.

CS: I notice that you’re not wearing many accessories. Is that typical?

HT: I’m usually wearing a few rings. I love rings, especially cameos. But I am sort of lazy so, no, I don’t accessorize much.

CS: What is your favorite style season?

HT: Fall! I love it because you can layer everything, but you don’t have to bundle up like you do in the winter.

CS: Describe your style in three words.

HT: Fun. Retrospective. Eclectic.

We raided Haley’s closet and found…

Lots of sundresses, sweaters, jackets, Keds, Converse sneakers, and scarves.

“I love Fair Isle sweaters! And sweaters from the seventies. I wear them with scarves for the perfect, comfy fall look.”
